At just 21 years old, Juan Luis Londoño, best known for his stage name of Maluma (composed of the first two letters of his mother’s, father’s and sister’s names), has become one of Latin urban music’s most impactful young artists and the face of the youth of Colombia. He is one of the social media’s hottest Latin stars, with more than 14 million fans on Facebook, 2 million active followers on Twitter and 5.1 million on Instagram. He has over 500 million views on his official VEVO/Youtube channel and his hits “La Temperatura”, “Obsession”, “Pasarla Bien” and “Miss Independent” have become anthems for the new generation of Latin America and are among the most downloaded throughout the region.
He was nominated for a 2013 Latin GRAMMY for “Best New Artist” (and performed on the show), won the 2014 MTV Millennial Award as Artist of the Year for Colombia and the 2014 Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Colombian Artist or Group.
This year Maluma released his second album, Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy.
Maluma continues to gain ground in the United States with latest single “Borró Cassette”, the #1 song on U.S Hispanic radio for the third week according to Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart. The song has also topped the radio airplay charts in his native Colombia where he has remained at #1 for 14 weeks.
“Borró Cassette” is part of Maluma’s second album Pretty Boy Dirty Boy which debuted at #1 in U.S album sales several weeks ago according to Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, thereby making Maluma the first Colombian urban music singer to reach #1 in U.S Latin album sales. With Pretty Boy Dirty Boy, Maluma also debuted at #1 in album sales in Mexico according to Mixup’s top album sales chart. And in his native Colombia, where he has become the face of the country’s youth, Maluma debuted at #1 in both physical and digital sales.
Pretty Boy Dirty Boy is available in stores as well as on digital-music platforms. Pretty Boy Dirty Boy is comprised of 14 tracks that show the dual nature of Maluma’s artistic personality – the romantic Pretty Boy, who wants to captivate the heart of the woman he loves as well as the seductive heart breaker Dirty Boy. Eight songs are produced by Kevin and Chan, the team known as Rude Boys who have worked with Maluma for many years, and produced such songs as his recent chart-topper “El Tiki”. He also worked with MadMusick, the producer of his hit “La Temperatura”. His more pop-oriented songs are produced by the renown Andrés Castro and classic reggaetón artists Santana and Nesty produce noteworthy urban tracks. Maluma, who was born Juan Luis Londoño, wrote or co-wrote all but one of the songs. The album features collaborations with Alexis y Fido, Farruko, Arcangel, Cosculluela, El Micha and Leslie Grace.
Pretty Boy Dirty Boy is the second official album by Maluma. His debut album, Magia (Magic), was released by Sony Music Colombia. This is his first album on Sony Music Latin.
The artist recently performed at the 16th annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, singing new track “Sin Contrato” alongside superstar girl band Fifth Harmony and by popular demand, has released the new version of the song.
The singer who has spent most of the year touring throughout Latin America will close the year with a Colombian tour “MALUMA Para Todos” (MALUMA For All) with spectacular concerts for the entire family. Tickets are already on sale for all of the shows which include the Centro de Eventos in Bogota (December 8th), the Plaza de Toros in Cali (December 13th), the Barranquilla Stadium (December 19th) and the Plaza de Toros in Medellín (December 20th).
Currently, Maluma is serving as a coach on the second season of ratings leader “La Voz (The Voice) Kids Colombia”. During the first season he was the winning coach. and this year he returns to defend his title.
